Geography is a popular subject throughout the school, with a number of pupils going on to further study at university. Specialist teaching provides a good basis to appreciate the world around pupils, and events such as Geography Action Week provide additional opportunities to increase awareness.
Fieldwork takes place both in the local area and on field study courses - for many years, Year 11 have visited Malham (see picture above), whilst Year 13 improved their skills based at Cranedale near Malton. GCSE work involves the study of the centre of Grimsby, whilst other groups acquire knowledge of other aspects of Geography via the internet, TV and a wide range of videos.
Some interesting work is researched by the pupils on topics ranging from waterfalls to environmental pressure groups and even holiday destinations. Much of this work helps to make the Geography room a stimulating and dynamic place.

Geography is not just about sitting in the classroom; it is part of the community. The aim is to increase awareness of the global dimension of our lives and all are taught that a geographer's best tools are his eyes. Picture above - a Geography room notice board.
