Admissions Process

This is a general guide to procedure and we are more than happy to deal with individual requests that may require alternative arrangements. Please direct enquiries to the admissions office; asking for Mrs Becky Hamilton (Admissions and Marketing Manager) or Mrs Kirsty Jennings ( P.A. to the Headmaster and Marketing Officer)


School Visit

Virtual Open Day or personal online appointment by prior arrangement with the Admissions Office. Due to current restrictions, no school tours are running.

Taster Day

This is arranged with the Admissions Office. Pupils will spend a full day or two in school, attending lessons with pupils of their own age. We try to arrange a day when the subjects, activities and sports taking place are of interest to the visiting pupil. For those considering boarding, it is also possible to experience an overnight visit. These are currently unavailable due to COVID restrictions, please contact the admissions team for alternative arrangements

Place Offer

Following a taster day, the offer of a place at St. James’ is made subject to the Headmaster receiving satisfactory references from a pupils’ previous school.

Scholarships and Bursaries

Academic Scholarships are awarded on the basis of performance in a Scholarship Exam. Sport and Music scholarships are assessed in accordance with the timescale below. We always do our best to consider good quality applications for awards throughout the year.
