Curriculum for International Students

St. James' School: mainstream curriculum for International Students

For International Students who have a level of English sufficient to enter the mainstream school, they will be offered a timetable with a range of subjects (the number of different subjects depends on what each individual student can cope with) alongside their ESL lessons. Students will be offered a place in the yeargroup that the School feels is appropriate toa students age, ability and maturity.

Short Courses

International students coming to the UK for short courses will be entered into the Year group most suitable to their age and ability. They will take part in all UK lessons and, if required, have ESL lessons. Students coming to the UK for more than two terms may be entered for examinations.

St. James' International: Intensive English Course

Once enrolled on the St. James’ International course, students are provided with an intensive education in the English Language alongside core subjects such as Mathematics, Science, ICT, Art, PSHE and Physical Education. St. James' is a registered Trinity Examination Centre and students enrolled on the course study Integrated skills in English (details below). Courses range in length from one term to one year and students will gain the necessary skills to be able to join a mainstream British Boarding School at the end of their course. For many, this will mean a move into St. James’ Senior School, but others will be fully supported to find a school to continue their education in Britain or elsewhere.
