North Region ISA 5-a-side Football Championships 2009

Having been postponed due to snow the previous week, the championships finally got under way on Monday 9th February, at St James' School, Grimsby.

Nine teams battled through tricky driving conditions from as far and wide as Sunderland (Argyle House) and Ormskirk (Kingswood College) and were rewarded with clear blue skies and pitches in good condition for football. They were split into two round-robin groups of 4 and 5 teams, respectively, with the two top teams qualifying for semi-finals.

The standard of play was high and made for two extremely closely contested semi-finals. In the end, St James' School overcame Hill House School (Doncaster) 2-1, whilst Firwood Manor (Oldham) beat Kingswood College 1-0 but after the game had gone to extra-time.

Hill House School won the 3rd/4th play-off whilst, in a thrilling end to end final, St James' School defeated Firwood Manor 2-0, to make it a hat-trick of wins in this competition.

The four semi-finalists will represent the North Region in the ISA Nationals, in March. Good luck boys!
