Young Chef of the Year Award

Danielle Butler, Kevin Ho, Kieran Procter, Sophie Smith, Anton Van Marion and Oliver Woods took part in the Grimsby Rotary Club Young Chef of the Year heat at St. James' School on Thursday 11th December.  They each prepared and served an economical two-course meal for two people in 90 minutes.  All six pupils made a superb effort, and were given certificates of achievement by Messrs Birrell, Burnett and Cook from the Rotary Club.

The winner was Oliver Woods, Year 11, who made Penne with aubergine in red wine sauce, served with marinated feta cheese on salad leaves, followed by chocolate fondant pudding with whipped cream and fresh raspberry coulis.  Oliver goes through to compete at the District final in Doncaster on February 14th.

Second prize went to Sophie Smith, Year 8, who prepared lasagne, with ginger and mandarin cheesecake for dessert.

Anton Van Marion, Year 9, won third prize with his fillet of salmon in lemon and watercress sauce, served on a bed of pasta, followed by chocolate mocha pudding.

The judges complimented our young chefs on their skills and products. Well done to all those who took part!
