Welcome from the Housemaster
My name is Mr. Hughes and I am the Housemaster at Woodard House, where I live with my wife, who is a teaching assistant at the school, and my two sons, Barney and Billy, who both attend the Prep school at St. James’.
I am primarily a Physical Education teacher and have nineteen years of experience in this role but have also been fortunate to accumulate extensive pastoral experience, having first become a Head of Year fifteen years ago, which is a job I did for six years before eventually becoming a subject Head and Housemaster. In addition to this, I have also been fortunate enough to teach PSHE at KS3 and 4 for five years, so feel that I am well equipped to contribute meaningfully to the excellent pastoral care provided at school as well as in the boarding house and support any boarder who might be struggling with any welfare or behavioural concerns in a prompt, delicate and considerate fashion.
My family are hands down the most important thing in my life and in my opinion being a dad is the best job in the world. Again, I believe that this directly affects my care for the children and young adults in the boarding house because I always try to treat them how I would want my children to be treated.
